The hormone connection

The hormone dependent cancers like breast and prostate cancer are now recognised as the second largest cause of death of Australians. Many scientists believe that environmental chemicals are one of the major factors that contribute to these cancers. Today, because of the increased awareness of these hormone altering substances, which are commonly referred to as environmental xenoestrogens, we need to be more pro active in looking for ways to reduce the effects of these on our health.

Herbal supplements, which can act alone or in combination to improve hormone function are seen as a way to reduce the effects of the xenoestrogens. Many of these herbal medicines are available and each has its own specific use.

For men: Zinc, Magnesium, Saw Palmetto, Damiana, Ginseng, Soy Isoflavones.

For women: Zinc, Magnesium, Iron, vitamin B6, Chaste Tree Berry, Soy Isoflavones, Turmeric, Black Cohosh, Wild Yams.

Health is not merely the absence of disease, it is a vibrant state of wellbeing and enjoyment of life.
